Introduction Early cardiotoxicity modern radiotherapy (RT) is not known. Purpose To study the early cardiotoxic effect contemporary RT on myocardium with cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in patients breast cancer (BC). Methods Patients in-situ ductal carcinoma breast, scheduled for were included. All had undergone surgical tumorectomy. Exclusion criteria prior systemic chemotherapy, or known disease. treated 3-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated RT, left-sided BC also deep inspiration breath hold protocol, if feasible. underwent CMR imaging to and within 2 weeks after RT. Left right ventricular volumes ejection fraction, global native postcontrast T1 values T2 values, completion analyzed. provided written informed consent. Results A total 40 female (mean age 55 ± 7 years) included, 22 BC. The mean radiation dose was 42 Gy. results are presented Table 1. Left-sided statistically significant increase values. There no differences other studied parameters. No patient developed pericardial effusion presence late gadolinium enhancement at both exams. Conclusion Modern associated increased most likely representing myocardial edema,

Pattern and Prognostic Implications of Cardiac Metastases Among Patients With Advanced Systemic Cancer Assessed With Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

BACKGROUND Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is well validated for tissue characterization of cardiac masses but has not been applied to study pattern and prognostic implications of cardiac metastases (CMETs) among patients with systemic cancer. METHODS AND RESULTS The population consisted of 60 patients with stage IV cancer (32 patients with CMETs, 28 diagnosis-matched controls) under...
